If you are using Windows Server 2008 R2 for development, you may have encountered an error when installing the Windows Phone 7 Developer Tools. The installer only supports Windows Vista or Windows 7, but there is a workaround:
- Download the setup file
- Extract the contents of the package by running
vm_web.exe /x - Go to the folder where you extracted the files and open
baseline.dat - Find the section
[gencomp7788] - Change
InstallOnLHSfrom from 1 to 0 - Change
InstallOnWin7Serverfrom from 1 to 0 - Save the changes
- Start
setup.exe /web
It is unclear why Microsoft chose not to support installation on Windows Server by default.
